Stages

One of many ravers’ favorite parts about EDC is the stages and their design. EDC is iconic for having a huge main stage called kineticField that features a giant sculpture-like design, decorated with beautiful rainbow lights and lasers. Besides the main stage, there are plenty of other stages that have their own crazy production and designs, like circuitGrounds, which usually always has lots of LED screens, which are great for those who appreciate visuals in sync with the music.

These are just two of the many stages at EDC; there are so many stages, usually one for pretty much every sub-genre of EDM, like bassPod for those who love headbanging, quantumValley for those that want to vibe with the euphoric music of trance, neonGarden for the techno and house heads, and many more. 2024 will also bring a new stage called bionicJungle with a curated lineup of house artists. 

On top of the larger stages, there are lots of art cars roaming around that are decorated with their own theme and style as well, and are always fun to dance around while passing by to other stages or to other parts of the festival.

Art Installations

Along with the amazing stage design and music played at these stages, there are tons of other parts of EDC to enjoy. This festival has tons of art installations throughout the festival that are great places for photo ops, meet-up spots, and overall great pieces of art to appreciate. The best part about EDC is that since it takes place throughout the night, the lights and art are a bright contrast against the dark sky. These massive 3D superstructures look even better at night and many of them are interactive. Make sure to take some time to explore the many art scattered throughout the festival.

EDC Dancers and Performers

Something that took many ravers by surprise at EDC were the dancers and performers that walked through the festival. Some of them are circus performers walking around on stilts, some are playing with fire on some art structures and flying through the sky on trampolines. The performers just add another layer of creativity to the festival and the whimsical characters and dancers will make you feel like you are part of another world.

Downtown EDC

One of the newer additions to EDC is a part called Downtown EDC. This part of the festival features chill spots and funky bars that have various themes to them, such as a Mini Bar where all the furniture and cups were mini, a Tokyo-style karaoke bar, and some that have live performers and dancers at. Walking around Downtown EDC, you truly appreciate how much creativity and art is put into the festival, especially the little things outside of the music and stages.

Headliners

At EDC, the headliners, aka the DJs and artists performing at EDC, are one of the biggest parts of the art in the musical form. Each day, there are some of the biggest and most talented DJs playing on all of the stages. You can expect a wide variety of musical styles and genres and many of them have crazy visuals displayed on screen, along with laser and light shows that go with the music.

On top of the music, one of the biggest features that sets EDC apart from other festivals is the fireworks show that occurs each night during the music. Across the whole venue, there are hundreds of fireworks that go off throughout the sky and it is one of the prettiest sights during EDC. They recently added light up drones along with the firework show and it is honestly one of many ravers’ favorite parts about EDC.

You get to catch your favorite artist and enjoy the firework and light show all at once! And of course, the most important headliner is you! This is one of EDC’s quotes that what makes this festival different from others is the strong community that takes place at this festival. Each and every raver brings their own creativity and uniqueness to the festival, whether it is your dance style, your totem or flag, how you decorate your campsite, kandi- whatever it is, the passion that each raver brings to EDC is what makes this festival special. You really feel welcomed at EDC and it’s a place for self-expression alongside with other ravers who have the same passion.

Out of all of the festivals that take place here, EDC is a must for all ravers, new and seasoned. Every year is a different theme and every year it’s a different experience. kineticField

kineticField is the mainstage at EDC. It is the biggest one at this festival and usually features a giant and beautiful design following a theme. This year’s theme is yet to be announced but the mainstage and lineup never fails to impress even the most seasoned ravers. Every year, the design gets wilder, and going into the festival the first day, you never know what to expect so it is truly a great experience seeing the mainstage for the first time as the scenery gets darker and kineticField illuminates with rainbow lights and lasers.

circuitGrounds

On the opposite end of kineticField is the second biggest stage called circuitGrounds. This stage is a favorite for those who especially appreciate the production on top of the music. It is always filled with lots of LED screens and wraps around in a semi-circle fashion that makes you feel super immersed into the DJs that play there.

cosmicMeadow

This stage is one that many see when they first walk into the festival. This stage is where the festival kicks off with the EDC Opening Ceremony and usually features a guest for this event. This is the first stage that opens up earlier in the night so it is a great spot to catch a set in the warm sun as it slowly sets in the background. As the day turns into night, you can find many ravers sitting in the bleachers where this stage faces and it is honestly a perfect spot for those who want to chill and enjoy amazing DJs. There is also plenty of grass around this stage so you can find somewhere to lay around and enjoy the music.

neonGarden

One of the great things about EDC is that there are smaller stages that are dedicated to specific genres of EDM. At neonGarden, you will find many techno and house heads dancing around where the production seems minimal yet immersive and deep. You will find many Factory 93 DJs playing here and it is a great stage to be at to feel the deep vibrations of various house and techno music.

bassPod

If you’re feeling energetic, bassPod is the stage to be at. Headbangers gather at this stage to vibe to some of the best bass house, dubstep, trap and DnB artists in the EDM scene. The stage design here is unique and always features a crazy design that even has interactive parts that extend into the crowd. Make sure to check out this stage, grab a rail or friend, and headbang your way through the night at bassPod.

quantumValley

This stage is for those who want to be uplifted by the euphoric music known as trance. At quantumValley, you will be joined by many other Trance Fam ravers and experience some of the most ethereal trance DJs, as well as trippy sounds from psytrance as well. Recently, this stage became an open air megastructure with LED lights going all around the top. No matter the layout of the stage, it is one that all ravers should check out to enjoy some uplifting music.

wasteLand

This stage features some of the best hardstyle, hard core, and hard dance DJs. If you’re feeling upbeat, this stage is a must; you’ll get to experience fast tempos and hard bass and overall the most fun group of ravers out there! Many are going hard to the beats and sounds of hardstyle and you’ll see people dancing and enjoying the music with one another.

stereoBloom

At steroBloom, you’ll be grooving to house and tech house music all weekend long. This stage has some amazing house DJs and it’s always a party with shufflers on the side, and everyone from left to right dancing around. The design of this stage is one that you can’t miss, with bright lights all around and studded with daisies in the back.

BionicJungle

EDC's newest stage, BionicJungle, features a curated lineup of house music artists to groove to all night long. This stage is small but packs a punch and will. keep you dancing until dawn.

Art Cars

On top of the many bigger stages at EDC, you’ll also find lots of art cars scattered throughout the festival as well! Each of them have their own theme, such as a rockin’ pirate ship or a huge buggy car. Whatever the theme and music, it is always a fun time at these mini stages. You even get a chance to climb up and dance up on top alongside the DJ, so that is always a fun experience! There’s also secret and exclusive sets that take place at these art cars, so make sure you stop by to check them out while exploring the festival.

Dubstep

This is one of the biggest subgenres of bass music. It originated in Europe in the early 2000s so it is relatively newer compared to other EDM genres. Music classified as dubstep consists of heavy basslines and 2-step rhythms. The genre grew in popularity as DJs played it on BBC Radio as well as being played in the British local scene in the mid 2000s.

It especially grew in popularity thanks to American producers, notably Skrillex who helped the genre’s popularity grow in the US. It grew to mainstream popularity also thanks to the rise of YouTube channels like UKF Dubstep that would bring exposure to younger listeners. Some notable dubstep artists include Flux Pavilion, Knife Party, Chase & Status, and more during the early phases. Some bigger ones now in the scene include Excision, Zomboy, Virtual Riot, Subtronics, Zeds Dead and more.

Riddim

Riddim is technically a subgenre of dubstep. It features more minimal sub-bass and triplet sounds. It grew to popularity around the mid 2010s. It will typically use more clap elements instead of snares. Compared to regular dubstep, it will sound like there is more space and less chaos going on. Some notable riddim DJs include Infekt, Midnight Tyrannosaurus, BadKlaat, Boogie T, Ganja White Night, and more.

Drum and Bass

Drum and bass, also known as DnB emerged in the UK rave scene in the 1990s and is one of the older subgenres of bass music. It has characteristics of faster beats at around 165-185 bpm and heavy bass and sub bass elements. Many DnB songs also have melodic vocals on the songs. Some of the most popular DnB artist include Sub Focus, Chase & Status, Wilkinson, Delta Heavy, Netsky, Dimension, and many more.

Trap

Trap is a unique subgenre of hip hop that features elements of dubstep and bass music that came around in the 1990s. It became popular with the mainstream around the early 2010s and producers like Baauer, RL Grime and Flosstradamus, and Yellow Claw brought it to more mainstream popularity. Trap music consists of heavy sub-bass, rhythmic snares and kick drums. Trap also grew in popularity globally such as in South Korea in K-pop where they incorporated trap elements that brought attention to this genre of music.

Melodic Bass

Melodic bass is another sub genre of bass music that incorporates bassy elements of dubstep along with more euphoric melodies from trance. It includes harmonies along with heavy drops that has become more popular as of late, thanks to DJs like Seven Lions, Jason Ross, Illenium, Mitis, Trivecta, Nurko and more.

Future Bass

Future bass is like a combination of dubstep and trap, and has softer, less harsh rhythms compared to both. Future bass was pioneered by artists like Hudson Mohawke and San Holo and brought to mainstream popularity by DJs like Flume, Louis the Child, Mura Masa and more.

Bass House

Bass house is a combination of house and bass elements of riddim and dubstep. The tempo for bass house usually sits around 120-130 bpm similar to regular house and will typically be slower than dubstep. It is also relatively newer, arising in the mid 2010s. Some notable DJs in this subgenre include Joyryde, Habstrakt, Tchami, Jace Mek, Knock2 and more.

New Beat or Midtemp Bass

There is a very new subgenre of bass music called modern new beat which is also referred to as midtemp bass. This subgenre has elements of versatility and can range from gritty and heavy to calm and melodic. Some producers in this subgenre include Rezz, 1788-L, and Notaker.

There are many options for choosing what to use as the pole of the totem, such as wooden dowels from craft stores, mini portable flagpoles, telescoping pool poles, PVC pipes- essentially any long pole that is strong enough to hold the head of the totem as well as withstand multiple festivals. I searched for a pole online with the keyword “telescoping”. I recommend looking for a pole that is telescoping because it makes carrying and transporting your totem much easier, especially if you’re flying with your totem! The pole I went with was something that was approximately 2 feet long when collapsed and stretched to about 4 feet long when extended out. This was the perfect option for me; it was lightweight, long and easy for me to fit into my luggage, especially since I travel and fly around a lot for festivals (catch my totem pole at Bass Canyon and Electric Zoo!). It was pretty affordable, too - about $9. 

2. Crafting the Head of the Totem

It was my first time making a totem and there were so many different options to make. I wanted to something eye-catching, yet simple, so I went with an animal totem. I figured totem animals were relatively easy for a first totem, so I found an image of a cute dog and did some photoshopping myself to make this dog festival ready!

I then saved the image and searched up places to do large poster prints of the image I created. OfficeMax offered a cheap option that printed my picture on a large poster option (18" x 24")  for less than $15! It was pretty impressive in size, especially for the cost.

I pasted my poster image on to a piece of cardboard that I cut out perfectly to the outline of the image. I went ahead and glued the poster onto the cardboard. On the back of the poster, I used some scraps of the remaining cardboard to form a strap where the totem pole could be inserted and could be removed easily as well for easy transporting.

I was super satisfied with the outcome of my first totem: it was large and so easy to carry and take apart for traveling, which fit all of my needs.

3. Making Your Totem Pole Stand Out

For my totem pole, I wanted it to light up so I found some LED lights on Amazon. The ones that I bought were great because they were battery operated and also waterproof.

I added them to the edge of my totem so it would be colorful and lit all around!

These lights were awesome because there were multiple colors and could be operated to cycle through the colors on its own.

Additional Tips to Make Your Totem Stand Out in the Crowd!

A festival totem is great for expressing your creative side so take this as an opportunity to do so! Not to mention, the more creative your totem pole is, the more photos it will likely end up in. There are endless options for how to make your totem unique: glitter, faux flowers, colorful faux fur, lights, stuffed animals, jewels, etc.

The list is endless! Take a trip to your local craft store and you can find loads of items to take your totem to the next level. Using hashtags on social media platforms can give you inspiration from a bunch of photos of other people’s totems.

Making my first rave totem was definitely a fun experience for me and allowed me to express my creative side. Festivals are a place where people are free to express themselves, whether that’s through the clothes ravers wear, the kandi they trade, the totems they make, the flags they fly. So go and get creative! Make a totem of your favorite image or meme for the festival season; who knows who will see your festival totem or where photos of it might end up. Firefly Music Festival’s lineup features some of the biggest headliners spanning all kinds of genres. Some of the headliners include Halsey, My Chemical Romance, Green Day, Dua Lipa, The Kid Laroi, San Holo, Zedd, Porter Robinson, Seven Lions, Gryffin, and much more. Camping at Firefly

Camping at Firefly adds to the experience of the festival. It will take your festival trip to the next level and immerse you into the community along with other festival goers. All camping options come with early access to the festival and easy access to the venue, access to showers, restroom, food vendors, and other camping amenities like the Ranger Station, General Store, and shuttles between lots and campsites. There are many stages to explore at Firefly Music Festival. This festival features seven packed stages with some of the craziest designs. Shambhala Music Festival takes place in the scenic valleys of British Columbia, at the Salmo River Ranch, which is home to many farm animals, views, and gardens. There is the Salmo River that runs through the festival, and ravers can enjoy their time along the river as well. This festival takes place over the span of 5 days, and features non-stop music, many different events and attractions, which makes it a unique journey for every attendee.

There are tons of attractions at Shambhala that light up the place throughout the day and night, as well as many artists doing live art all over the venue. On top of that, as an attendee, there are many activities that you can participate in, such as yoga sessions, lots of different workshops that include art and meditation related events, and more. And of course, the stages themselves are decked out in eye-catching designs and decorations.

Each stage at Shambhala is a different experience, from the music that is played to the production that each features, and the lights and lasers that go with each stage, making every stage a different journey.

Burning Man

Burning Man is a completely different experience than what you expect from a normal festival because it's not a festival. Burning Man is a project that they call an “ecosystem of artists, makers, and community organizers” that all get together and create Black Rock City, a temporary city constructed for one week every year in the north Nevada desert. 

Black Rock City is built by festival-goers, complete with art cars, massive art installments you can climb on, and a huge city full of events and gatherings to explore. It is more than just a festival, it is a city that embraces self-expression, creativity, collaboration, art and valuing the principles that they uphold, including the focus on the ecosystem.

The roots of Burning Man are all about having an immersive experience and enjoying a sense of immediacy, so the festival changes every year and doesn't release any lineup information ahead of time. In fact, the festival itself doesn't supply anything but the infrastructure! The attendees create all of the events, art and parties. 

Ultra Music Festival

Ultra Music Festival is one of the biggest festivals in the U.S. and takes place in sunny and warm Miami, right along the beach at Bayfront Park. This festival has some of the craziest stages; they are notorious for their Megastructure, which is a huge covered dome and usually has moving LED panels and designs inside that display crazy light and laser shows.

Ultra Music Festival is also known for having a massive main stage that is usually covered in LED screens from top to bottom and arranged in wild designs. You get a view of one of the coolest main stage designs at a festival, and right behind you is the skyline of Miami; those views combined with a sunset set is probably one of the best parts of the festival. 

Electric Daisy Carnival

EDC takes place at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and for an entire weekend, hundreds of thousands of ravers gather for a unique festival experience that takes place from Dusk till Dawn. It is the biggest EDM festival in the U.S. and the production is out of this world. There are tons of attractions that light up and guide you throughout the venue. The theme changes from year to year for this festival, but it is always a magical moment.

There are lots of stages at EDC that feature different sub-genres of EDM, and the two main stages are always massive designs that are colorful, with tons of lasers, lights, and pyro that is in sync with the music. Not only are the stages and music unique, there are tons of areas that ravers can explore, such as Downtown EDC, Daisy Lane, Rainbow Road and more that each have their own attractions and photo opportunities. No matter where you are, you will have something to do and something to see at all times.

Tomorrowland Music Festival

Tomorrowland is infamous for being the largest EDM festival in the world. This festival takes place in Belgium and features some of the top tier productions at a festival. There are tons of massive stages that are decorated with some of the most unique art and designs.

Inside Tomorrowland, there are lots of different events and places to visit, like DreamVille, which is the destination to be at after the festival. There are shops, activities and services all around, such as a Marketplace, a chill spot where you can engage in activities like yoga and workout sessions to get you energized for the festival! Altogether, being at Tomorrowland will make you feel like you are in a village of a different world for a weekend, especially with the music and production as well. 

Many people attend the festivals not just for the music, but for all the extra activities and production that the festival has to offer. Next time you head out to a festival, look beyond the music and you’ll see just how important the production of a festival is for making the experience unique and unlike any other. A lot of effort goes into putting a festival together, so it’s important to acknowledge and respect the art and creativity that the production brings!

People have always gone all out with makeup for festivals. Makeup looks get more and more unique and have become an outlet for people to express their creative side. Here are some makeup trends for festivals for 2022.

Neon and Blue Light Winged Eyeliners

Winged eyeliner has always been in style and lately the trend has evolved to include lots of bright, neon colors that really make your eyes pop. There are plenty of pigmented and colored eyeliners nowadays that add a hint of color to an otherwise simple look. Some eyeliners are also activated by blue light, especially neon colors, and they will look super trippy at a festival during the evenings.

Freckles

Freckles have become trendy in recent years and have evolved to include different colors and textures! For festivals, a great way to level up your makeup with freckles is to use glitter or jewels. If you have time, you can use chunky glitter to speckle your face with a little bit of lash glue, or you can go with face jewels and place them all over your cheeks for a cute and glittery look.

Cut Crease

Cut creases have always been in style. But now the trend has evolved and many people are using bold and bright colors to cut crease or even thin eyeliner to achieve that look. For festivals, a perfect look is jeweled cut crease makeup.

There are many cut crease jewel packs that you can find here that will make it a breeze to put on. Layer it on top of a bold eyeshadow color to make your entire eye pop. You can also achieve this look with a dark black eyeliner and later individual rhinestones on top! This allows you to be flexible about the shape.

Sonic Bloom has been held in five different locations and they are finally able to call Hummingbird Ranch their long term home! Sonic Bloom strives to be zero waste and works with teams to successfully executive a zero waste event by cleaning up and making sure to recycle and choosing local as much as possible. Movement Festival is the festival to be at this spring! It is perfect for those who love house and techno, as well as those who want to experience a new vibe and a fun time. Location

Lightning In A Bottle will happen at Buena Vista Lake, which is a little north of Los Angeles. It is a camping festival, so you have the option to choose car camping or VIP camping, and each comes with a car pass. Otherwise you can park in the lot as well, so make sure you carpool with your squad so that you can get spots next to your friends! If you’re coming from Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, or Oakland, you also have the option to take the Lightning Bus, which departs from these four cities and will take you to a central part of the campgrounds. Camping

This is a five day long festival that will take place on campgrounds and next to a lake. Check out this blog post for tips on what to bring with to Lightning In A Bottle. Location

Desert Hearts festival used to take place at Los Coyotes Reservation, however, this festival is taking place at a new venue this year, at Lake Perris which is around 2 hours away from Los Angeles and San Diego. With a new venue this year, that means more surprises as to what to expect for the festival grounds, stage, layout, etc.

Desert Hearts never fails to go all out with the stage, decorations, production and vibes so it will definitely be something to look forward to! There will be campsites, bathrooms with showers, plenty of grass to dance around, and a huge beach that will have swimming access to the lake!

Make sure you respect the grounds; it’s a California State Land so treat the community like it’s your own, pick up after your belongings and make sure to not leave anything behind. The lineup can be found here, where you can also buy tickets.

Not only do they deck out the festival with amazing decorations, they encourage festival-goers to decorate their campsite, bring cool outfits and costumes, bring sculptures and art, and anything that you believe brings out your true and creative self. They host lots of artists and events like live painting, face and body painting, art displays, interactive art and installations, and performances as well. Imagine being inside one big art gallery with some of the best DJs bringing everyone together on one stage.

Festival Activities

Besides catching some of the best Desert Hearts DJs at this festival, there are also plenty of activities that this festival hosts, such as the Healing Sanctuary that hosts various forms of healing like sound healing, crystal healing, reiki, energy work, spoken word and relaxation and recharge zones. Camping

Desert Hearts is a camping festival, which is a great experience to be immersed in the music all weekend long. Each pass comes with camping access, with options to add passes for your car and/or RVs. You get the option of car camping or RV camping. For car camping, you get an allocated spot next to your car to set up camp and for RV camping, you have the option between regular sites or Premium RV sites, which comes with electrical hookups, picnic table, charcoal grill and lots of space for your RV.

Weather

This festival takes place in the desert area, so temperatures during the day can get pretty high, averaging around the 90s and reach cooler temps at night, around 40s. It is encouraged to bring layers that you can remove and put on easily for weather changes, so pack your cute rave fits and jackets!

It takes a lot of energy to travel to festivals and walk around the festival grounds all day and night and I know that myself and many others often feel drained after a weekend of raving. Here are some tips to stay healthy at the festival to make sure that you are bringing the best energy to them!

Stay Hydrated!

One of the most important rules for ravers, especially those that attend festivals that last all day and night and can take place outside in heat, is to make sure to stay hydrated! Drinking a lot of water can help you feel rejuvenated and is an important habit to keep both at the festival and outside, especially at festivals that take place in high temperatures. Water will help regulate your body temperature and to make sure that you don’t overheat.

For 21+ ravers that like to enjoy a drink or two at festivals, it's even more important to drink more water because alcohol will dehydrate you faster. Bringing a hydration pack is super useful and convenient for making sure that you stay hydrated, and if you don’t have one, bringing in an empty water bottle is also a great idea as well since most festivals have water stations where you can get water for free. If you want to bring hydration to the next level, bringing in powder electrolyte is a great way to make your water taste better!

Choose Healthy Food and Drink Options

Festivals always come stocked with amazing vendors for foods and drinks. Typically, you’ll find fast foods like pizza, fried chicken and fries at many vendors. Making sure that you are eating is a great way to stay energized at festivals, however, choosing healthier options, like salad bowls or wraps, will definitely make you feel a lot better!

Fueling yourself with clean calories will assure that you don’t feeling sluggish, especially if you are eating out the whole weekend at a festival. Go for healthier options like sandwiches and fruit smoothies to make sure you are fueling your body with the best foods. You can even bring and leave some protein bars in your car and bag to eat before and after the festival to make sure that you are eating better and getting the calories in.

Limit Alcohol Consumption

If you are 21 or older, having a few drinks with your friends at raves can be fun and enjoyable! Make sure that you don’t overdo it and to space your drinks out evenly throughout the night. Drinking too much and too fast can lead to negative experiences, and will definitely make you feel exhausted the next day. So make sure that you and your friends are drinking responsibly and never drink and drive! Always have a designated driver or use a ride share service.

Healthy Skin!

It's important to take care of your skin and and body during a festival as well. Lots of festivals take place outside during the day where there is a lot of sunlight so bringing in accepted sunscreen (which usually excludes spray sunscreen) and applying often throughout the day will make sure that you are protecting your skin from the harmful UV rays if exposed all day. Having a sunburn is never fun! Bring a pair of UV sunglasses to protect your eyes during the day too.

COVID Precautions

It is a blessing to be able to attend events after such a long pandemic, but know that it is still important to stay healthy especially with COVID-19 still around! Staying Healthy Before and After

Making healthy choices leading up to the festival is a great way to make sure that you stay healthy. I’ve noticed with myself and with friends that staying fit before a festival will improve your stamina a lot—so if you can, try to get some workouts in before you leave for a festival! It can be as easy as getting in a 30 minute walk a day or going to the gym.

During the weekend of a festival, eat a healthy breakfast and lunch before heading out so that you are providing your body with enough nutrients and calories to last through the day and night. When you get back from the festival, it’s tempting to attend after parties and rage more after but getting enough sleep before the next day will help you feel energized before more raving!

What is Beyond Wonderland?

This festival takes place August 27th -28th at the NOS Events Center located in San Bernardino. This festival will take you down the rabbit hole with its Alice in Wonderland theme and lots of multidimensional decorations and amazing stages. 

Who is playing at Beyond Wonderland?

This year’s festival has a lineup that is stacked both days, with headliners such as Dillon Francis, Tiesto, Valentino Khan, Wooli, Alison Wonderland, Gryffin, Barely Alive b2b Modestep b2b Virtual Riot and many more! There are also lots of themed stages, including Dreamstate, Basscon and Factory 93, where you can definitely find various types of music that’s right up your alley and genres to explore. 

What to Bring

With a two day festival that goes all day and night, it is nice to arrive prepared. Here are some helpful items that will make your time at the festival much more enjoyable.

• Festival ticket: this year, attendants will receive a wristband to get into the festival. Make sure to slip it on your wrist (not too tight or loose) and keep it on for the weekend so that you don’t lose it!
• Vaccine card/negative COVID-19 test: it is important to stay healthy for this year’s festivals and with that, the festival has rules on the COVID-19 vaccine and negative test verification before entering. Make sure you have proof of this in the form of a copy or digital proof on your phone before heading to the festival
• Masks: masks are strongly encouraged for everyone despite vaccinated status so bring some cute ones to match your outfit! savormeditation has lots of cute ones you can find here

• Gum: chewing on gum is super refreshing while in a crowd at a festival so bring them with, unopened

Sending a care package is a great way to show your love and support for your friends, especially since many of us don't get to see each other at festivals. This DIY is easy to assemble and you can get creative with whatever you add to it! This guide will give you plenty of ideas to create your own personalized care packages and there is plenty of room to make them unique and special for all your friends.

You can send it to a friend you met at a rave or a newbie raver, and send over rave essentials they can use at their next rave. Sending a PLUR package can definitely make somebody’s day and can encourage everyone to pay it forward and send it to their rave fam as well.

Step 1: Find the Perfect The Bag

Instead of using a regular gift bag or plain box, why not put your items in something that can be used in the future? Sending your PLUR package in a fanny pack or a mini backpack would definitely be something that your friends can use and it looks great as well! savormeditation has plenty of cute fanny packs and backpacks that would make a great container to send and hold your rave care package in that you can find here. 

Step 2: Add Rave Essentials for the PLUR Package

Step 4: Decorate Your Plur Package

Craft stores have many decorative and cute add ons for your care package. You can stuff the bag or fanny pack with tissue paper or cellophane. Also, sprinkling in some glitter can definitely make it more eye catching as well!

I found some tissue paper with cute designs and some sparkly mesh that looked great to wrap the items in. Adding in a handwritten and personalized card is also a great addition to the care packages. You can never go wrong with a cute message to your friends. You can write down some of your favorite rave memories together and how excited you are to spend the next raves together.

You could also throw in a playlist or song recommendations into the note by printing out a QR code that they can scan for the link of the songs or playlist! When your friends open a package that is well decorated and assembled, they’ll definitely know that you put time and effort into making them a care package. Even sending a fanny pack with candy and gum is a great way to show your support to your friends on a budget! 

Showing love to your rave fam can be easy and is something that will be appreciated! With lots of room for personalizing it to each of your friends, it is a great way to send love and support to your rave fam, no matter how far away you are from each other. 

Recreating new rave fits with tie-dye is really simple! You can buy tie dye kits from Amazon. This is the kit I bought - It comes with all the necessities like rubber bands, bottles of dye, and gloves. There are lots of supplies for multiple projects so gather as many items as possible that you want to recreate. 

Here's How to Tie Dye A Shirt At Home: 

1. Find a white shirt or another article of clothing

I started with this white Yin & Yang shirt, which can be found here. This was a great shirt that worked as a canvas for the tie-dye since it is white. There are many guides online and even in the kits that provide you with ideas for different tie-dye patterns. I wanted to do the classic spiral for this shirt so I pinched the center and then rotated the shirt until it bunched up.

2. Tie The Shirt

I then secured the shirt with multiple rubber bands that came with the kit. 

The kits are simple to use; you just need to add water to the bottles! The dye is already inside the bottles and they are labeled with the color for convenience. 

3. Apply the Dye

Then the fun begins! You can take whatever color you want and apply it to any part of the wrapped-up shirt. Make sure that you are working on a surface that you don’t mind getting stained since it can get a little messy. I laid a piece of cardboard underneath to catch any excess dye. 

I applied the dye to one side of the shirt, using as many colors as I wanted and applying it all over, making sure it soaked it up well. You can use whatever color you prefer and in any amount, it’s your time to get creative! Then you flip the shirt over and repeat.

4. Wrap the shirt in plastic wrap

Once both sides are soaked completely with the dye, take a sheet of plastic wrap and cover the shirt up completely. This will help the shirt absorb as much dye as possible and ensure that the dye doesn’t dry up. You should let the dye sit for at least 6 hours, longer or shorter depending on how saturated you want the dye effect to look. 

5. Let the shirt dry

I let the shirt sit out for at least 6 hours. After letting it sit to absorb the dye, unwrap and rinse the shirt off with hot water. This will rinse off any excess dye that wasn’t absorbed. Let the shirts dry completely by hanging them up and then it's done! This shirt turned out really great - I thought the design was perfect and the colors were exactly what I wanted! 

Overall, I thought that this was a really fun at-home project that anyone can work on to change up their old rave clothes! It was relatively quick and given that this was my first-time tie-dying anything, I thought that the process was super easy. The shirt turned out great and it is a one of a kind rave fit that I could rock to a festival or show or even out in public!

I definitely recommend ravers to try this out, whether you’re looking to turn your old rave clothes into something new or even give your rave friends something unique. Changing up your rave clothes is also a great way to gift your rave friends! This is a fun project to work on while stuck at home and to share with your friends.

1. Stay Hydrated!

There are lots of items that are allowed into the festival that you should definitely bring! With the festival taking place right at the start of spring and in sunny Miami, it’s very important to stay hydrated. Bring a hydration pack so that you can refill with the free water filling stations throughout the venue! 2. Bring Cash And/Or Card

In the Miami heat, it can definitely get hot and sunny out there with all the raving! Make sure that you bring in some spare cash or a card so that you can make purchases inside the festival. There are plenty of vendors for food, snacks, and drinks, as well as lots of bars for alcoholic beverages if you are over 21 years old. In the past, there's been popsicle stands throughout the venue that was super helpful for cooling me down and were refreshing also!

3. Do Not Forget The Essentials!

It’s always nice to pack light so that you don’t lose any of your items or be in pain carrying a bunch of items. However, there are some things that you should definitely bring as they are essential! These include your Ultra wristband (just slip it on your wrist before the festival and leave it on all weekend; they’re not removable but they are waterproof!) and your ID or passport for getting into the festival since it’s an 18+ event and also for picking up wristbands at willcall, especially for international attendees! Check here for acceptable forms of identification into the festival.

Other Useful Items to Bring

For those that like to be prepared for the weekend at the festival, here are some other items that are great to bring! 

• Portable battery: If you like to record a lot and take lots of photos, make sure you bring in a fully-charged portable battery to give you and your crew extra power to your phones!
• Ear plugs: If you attend a lot of shows and festivals, or if you just don’t want your ears ringing at night, make sure you bring in some good earplugs. You can get the multipack foam earplugs at any drugstore, or you can upgrade and get nicer, reusable artists’ earplugs that help block out the loudness at festivals without muffling the sound. 
• Sunscreen: In the blazing Miami sun, it is especially important to make sure you are protecting your skin from the rays! Slap on some sunscreen before heading in and make sure to bring extra with you to apply throughout the day! The festival takes place mostly during the day and the last thing you want is to get sunburnt!

4. Download the Ultra Worldwide App

This app is super handy and useful, especially during the festival! It has all the deets about the lineup, the artists that are playing each day, as well as announcements during the festival so make sure you download this app and turn the notifications on! They’ve announced surprise guests and sets before through the app. The app is also useful for activating your wristband, and the more you check in to the app during the festival, the more points you get which means perks like designated entrances!

5. Create a Schedule

Once the set times for Ultra come out, it’s really helpful to create a schedule of who you want to see with your group! From my experience, it took some time to get from stage to stage and when I went to Ultra my first time, I definitely missed parts of some sets I wanted to see because I couldn’t get to the stage in time! The venue was a lot bigger than I thought and knowing who you want to see and where the stages are will give you extra time to move around and make sure that you get to see as much as possible! I did not expect the mainstage to be as crowded as it actually was, so getting out and into the crowd took a lot of time and is something that you should definitely factor in.

Pro tip: Make your schedule and set it as your lock screen on your phone for the night!

6. Head to the Merch Booths Early

If you’re someone who loves to get merch at festivals, make sure to head to the merch booth early! There are usually lots of exclusive items at the booth earlier on, including artist merch as well as festival merch. Getting there early will ensure that you have the best selection for items as well as sizes. I regret not getting any merch the first year I went because I visited the booth too late and was not able to find anything that fit. There are lots of items so getting there the first day means you can get what you want and show it off for the rest of the festival!

7. Check out Afterparties and Pool Parties

Miami is one of the best places to visit during Ultra because this means that Miami Music Week is taking place at the same time! MMW is a week full of tons of pool parties and late-night shows that run till the morning, all throughout the city of Miami. It’s a lot of fun for any music lovers and ravers and I recommend everyone who is hitting up Ultra to attend some of the afters as well as pool parties during the day! Miami has some of the coolest music venues in the US so this would be a perfect time to visit. The events start as early as the Monday before Ultra and runs until the end of week and there are literally over a hundred shows that take place day and night throughout the week. You can visit here to see the list of events, venues, and artists that will be performing! The list keeps growing leading up until the week of Ultra.

Ultra Music Festival is the place to kick off festival season, and there’s no better way to celebrate it than with sunny Miami! You do not want to miss out on any of the festivities for Miami Music Week. Tickets for Ultra are still on sale here and there will be so many more afterparties and pool parties that will be announced, as well as Tier 3 for the festival.

Phase 2 of the Ultra Lineup 2020

In addition to the b2bs, there are many other great artists that are featured on the Ultra lineup. Some other sets that you can’t miss include Gareth Emery’s Laserface, Gesaffelstein, Madeon’s Good Faith tour, Kygo (with a special tribute to Avicii), Gryffin, the return of Dash Berlin, and many more! 

Ultra is also bringing many unique branded stages, such as a Gud Vibrations stage, Revealed Recording label stage, Martin Garrix’s STMPD RCRDS label, Armin Van Buuren’s - A State of Trance, and the amazing techno stage by Resistance, which will feature 3 days of techno for the first time at the Megastructure!

With the venue back at Bayfront Park, this means the festival is back in the heart of Miami! This venue was one of my favorite parts of the festival back in 2018 when I attended; while dancing at Mainstage, you could see the skyline of Miami in the back. Also, with Miami Music Week going on at the same time, it’s super convenient to get around Miami to hit up the after parties and day parties! 

Another part of Ultra that I love is how mindblowing the stages are. The Worldwide Stage has the 180-degree stage that is super unique and has crazy visuals there.

The mainstage is also massive and feels unreal. Watching many live sets on YouTube was what I was expecting for the stage, but it is crazier in person and surpassed my expectations. 

One of my favorite stages out of any festival has to be the Megastructure at Ultra. It is one of the biggest domes I’ve seen, and the production there is so incredible. There are many lights and lasers as well as moving panels that it feels like you’re transported to a different world!

The production at Ultra is unlike any other. It’s an experience I recommend to any festival lover, especially those who love house, techno and trance. They’ve even added many more bass artists along with unique b2bs so bassheads will definitely enjoy this festival as well!

1. Get that Rave Bod!

The start of the new year means an opportunity to change your lifestyle and to improve yourself! Despite being in the midst of the winter, this only means that festival season is getting closer and it’s never too early to get in shape for festival season. 2. Explore More Artists and Genres

We all have our favorite artists that we can listen to on repeat and can see over and over again at festivals. Even though I have many favorites myself, I have discovered lots of new artists as well as new favorites by exploring other music outside of what I typically listen to.

There are many ways to discover new music - you can check out different playlists and albums on different apps, or even create collaborative playlists that you and your friends can add to! Another way to discover tons of new music is to look at festival lineups and listen to all the different kinds of artists, even the smaller ones. Then, check out those new artists at the festival or show! Sometimes being there in person makes all the difference in enjoying a set or liking the music, and you never know what you’ll end up liking.

3. Make New Rave Friends

Many of us go to shows and festivals with the same group of friends. It is super fun to be able to enjoy a set with some of your closest friends, however, I met some of my closest and newest friends at various festivals and raves! I’ve gone to some events solo and that has challenged me to meet new people, from joining group chats to attending meetups. As a raver, I highly recommend that you take on the challenge of attending an event solo!

You get to wander around on your own and meet so many different people while seeing some of your favorite sets and artists. There are tons of groups of people at raves that are welcoming to one another, such as shufflers or flow art groups and glovers. There are also lots of meetups that happen at different festivals! I’ve been able to find and attend some myself through social media. Take on the new year by making new rave friends! You might find a new rave fam for different festivals in the future.

4. Spread More PLUR!

As more and more people attend raves and festivals, there will be more people who are unaware of the rave community. There have been more negative incidents that occur at these events from my experience and one thing that I encourage ravers to strive for this year at raves and festivals is to spread more PLUR!

If you see someone at a festival or show that needs help or is not feeling well, help them out and give them water, fan them off, or bring them to a medical tent. There are many little things that ravers can do to improve the community, such as using manners when passing through the crowd and not pushing, or being respectful of people and their belongings.

If you find a lost item, return it to the lost and found! There are other ways to spread PLUR at different events such as making and handing out kandi. Trading kandi or even giving them away to other ravers always puts a smile on their face and gives them something to remember even after the event ends. There’s a lot of sentimental meaning to kandi and I always enjoy spreading positivity and good vibes to others. 

5. Take your Kandi making skills to another level!

There are many times where you go to a show and trade kandi with someone and they give you a bracelet that consists of the same beads with no words. Although it’s great to trade kandi with any raver, taking your kandi making skills up a notch definitely makes the experience even better! Kandi making is the opportunity to express your creativity with other ravers. It gives you a chance to connect with others and share a special moment at a rave even as the music is blasting. You can make tons of cool kandi with perlers and attach them, or even attach other items like inhalers, 3D printed logos, and more! I made one that had an avocado face mask attached and gave it to a raver who was dressed as an avocado.

The lineup for this year had some amazing artists and sets, and I got to explore a lot of new artists as well! With four main stages, moving art cars, and Corona Beach (a unique stage that has the vibes of a beach from the sand to the decor. There’s always great smaller DJs playing there and it makes you feel like you’re dancing right on the beach), I was able to find a set that I really enjoyed no matter when and where I was at. This year, Insomniac Events added another stage, stereoBLOOM, which featured a variety of genres of EDM throughout the weekend; I got to check out some hardstyle sets that I usually never see, such as Lady Faith. Some of my favorite acts this year were RL Grime, Eric Prydz, Adam Beyer, Rezz and Blunts & Blondes. I thought the production in sync with the music was stunning and such a mindblowing visual to see. There were lots of lasers this year along with crazy fireworks that really added to the production of every set.

Another one of my favorite parts of EDC Orlando this year was the addition of lots of art installations. There were so many areas that ravers could wander around and take photos with such as Anima, the female goddess structure made out of wood, steel, and natural fibers. Insomniac also brought the Pixel Forest from EDC Las Vegas, which was a wall of light that illuminated the venue as well as a light tunnel that had a mini-show synced with music. And my favorite art installation, the Paraluna, was also there as well! It’s my favorite because ravers can lay to watch the installation spin with lights in sync with the music and stages in the background. The entire venue was well decorated, from the Rainbow Road to Daisy Lane and Memory Lane that each had its own unique path around the venue. As night came around, the entire venue would be lit with colorful lights and decorations and walking around and getting to explore the venue was one of my favorite parts. As you’re exploring too, there would be many performers that wandered around and greeted you that you could take photos with. 

They really made the experience at EDCO feel like as if you were in a different universe, one with a lot of PLUR and amazing vibes that celebrated amazing music and people!

I’ve been to many festivals over the past few years and this year’s EDC Orlando had so many amazing people and ravers that I got to meet. The vibes were crazy this year, everyone treated each other really well and it was so easy to make new friends at various sets.

Overall, walking into Tinker Field again for EDC Orlando was an experience that completely blew my mind again with the production of the entire festival as well as the crazy stacked lineup this year. I made so many new memories this year with one of the best crowds I’ve been in. Even though the festival got rained on the first day, that didn’t stop any ravers from vibing and enjoying the music. I can’t wait to be back Under the Electric Sky in Orlando next year!

Next year’s EDCO will take place November 13th - 15th 2020 at Tinker Field! Tickets are already on sale here with payment plans for only $10 down! You do not want to miss this festival next year; it keeps getting better and better!

Just like EDCLV, making it to day three of EDCO is definitely like running a marathon; here are some tips for any first-timers to keep in mind before heading Under the Electric Sky!

Will call tickets

For anyone that has their wristband at will call and is heading to Orlando a day or two early, try getting your wristband at will call in advance! Last year, they had an off-site location downtown for ravers to pick up their tickets. If you aren’t there until the day of the festival, try to head to the venue before doors open to get your tickets! You don’t want to be stuck waiting in line while some of your favorite sets are playing.

Bring a hydration pack

Staying hydrated is definitely a top priority, especially in the hot Orlando heat and sun all day and into the night. There are many cute hydration bags and camelbacks that you can purchase on Amazon, at your local sport equipment shops, department stores, and even on savormeditation.com! Many of them come in a cute style so you can stay hydrated in style! If you’re bringing a bigger bag, you should be cautious of pickpocketers; for extra security, hook small combination locks on your bag’s zippers to secure your items all weekend.

Bring a small bag or fanny pack

If you’re not a fan of big bags, consider bringing a small backpack or a fanny pack. These are great options for you to store your belongings such as your phone, wallet, and any other small items. You don’t want to go home missing your phone or ID by the end of the weekend!

Don’t forget a hand fan!

The Orlando heat is blazing, especially in the sun during the day! To keep cool during the day, bring a hand fan that you can use to fan your and your rave fam off with! There are some you can get on savormeditation here as well. You can also buy a small electronic fan that is battery powered for more convenience. Some of them come with a water mister as well, so there’s definitely a lot to choose from.

Slap on sunscreen

If you’re going to be raving all day in the sun, make sure that you protect your skin from harmful UV rays and put some sunscreen on before heading in, as well as bring along a small tube so that you can reapply later inside as well. The last thing you want is to be in pain from getting sunburnt.

Bring a rain poncho

On the flip side to getting sunburnt, Orlando weather is unpredictable and there are chances of rain. The festival will continue rain or shine so be prepared by checking the weather occasionally before the festival and bring a light rain jacket or poncho so that you won’t be soaking wet. You can buy one for 99 cents on Amazon!

Charge your portable charger the night before

If you're someone that takes a lot of photos and videos at a festival, then a portable charger is a lifesaver especially after you leave and need to meet up with friends or call for a ride. Make sure you charge it completely the night before and charge it every night you get back from the festival so that you’ll have backup power when inside the festival grounds!

Pick a meetup spot

With a festival the size that EDC Orlando is, it’s easy to lose your friends or get lost when going from one stage to another. A tip for anyone that is going to their first big festival is to pick a specific spot on the map to meet up before and after the festival. Throughout the night, the reception at EDCO might be spotty so it could be hard to reach any of your friends. Planning out a meetup spot ensures that you can find your group if you ever get separated. If you are planning to go with a big group, check out the next tip!

Meeting in front of a ride is always a go-to spot for me! Plus it's fun to people-watch while you're waiting!

Make and Bring a unique totem in!

Lots of festivals allow totems or flag poles with flags attached and these are great options for when you are with a big group. The many times that my group brought in a flag to a festival, they were super easy to find when we separated and went to other sets for example. This is also a great way to represent your style and creativity of you and your group! If you haven’t made a totem before and need some tips, check out this guide on how to make a standard totem!

Make sure you follow the totem guidelines on EDC’s website so that your totem doesn’t break any rules and get confiscated. 

Some useful items inside the festival

• Toilet Paper - One of the worst situations to be in during a festival is heading to the porta-potties and realizing there isn’t any more toilet paper when it’s too late or not having any hand sanitizer. Bring some of your own into the festival so you don’t have to worry about that situation.
• Ear Plugs - Another essential item that I think all ravers should bring and use are earplugs. Being in the crowd all day for three days straight can be really loud on your ears and you don’t want to be laying in bed with your ears ringing. You can cop cheap foam earplugs from drugstores or invest in some nicer, reusable ones online as well.
• Chapstick & Gum - Some other nice items to have inside the festival include chapsticks and gum since the festival is so hot; these are refreshing to have (just make sure they’re sealed). If you know how to use hula hoops, pois, light whips and more, you’re also free to bring those in! Make lots of kandi!

EDC Orlando has some of the best festival vibes with super PLUR ravers. You’ll meet a lot really nice ravers and it’s always to trade kandi, or give away some to ravers even if they don’t have any. I have many kandi from lots of different festivals that all represent a special moment during those experiences and it’s great to bring home a memory of the festival!

Download the Insomniac Events apps before the festival to have the set times right on your phone! The app can let you plan out your schedule for each day and know who is playing and where. You can also pull up a full version on the map if you’re looking for a specific location or get lost. They’ll also send out notifications throughout the events, like reminders when DJs are getting on and sometimes even surprise sets or any cancellations.
