The Unicorn Crew is a group of individuals chosen from savormeditation' customers who get to represent savormeditation at festivals and carry out the mission to inspire self-expression, creativity and empower individuals at festivals and beyond. The crew is given admission to the festival, dressed in savormeditation outfits and work as a team to promote the brand and interact festival-goers, especially those who are new to the community. 

The crew also provides live social media coverage via Instagram Stories and Snachat so followers and fans can get a first-hand look at the latest festival fashion trends and hottest EDM events.

When did the Unicorn Crew start? How has the program evolved?

The Unicorn Crew first started in October 2013. Over the years, the amount of applicants per festival has grown from 10+ to hundreds! We used to lead each crew ourselves but with time we have cultivated leaders and provided avid brand loyal unicorns with the opportunity to gain experience leading others and representing our brand at festivals and beyond. Furthermore, with the growth of social media, Unicorns have had an increase in responsibilities. It’s not only about trading kandi and making a lasting impact on the community, it’s also about being a brand ambassador and creating stories through social media so that people who are not at the festival can be a part of the experience, too.

Can you tell us what makes this program unique?

This program provides a way for people in the community to have a new festival experience and get some exposure to what it’s like working in a festival setting. Dressing up and attending a festival seems quite easy, however what people don’t realize is that this program has a huge impact on the community and that’s very evident when you talk to festival attendees who recognize the crew. Seeing this first hand just goes to show the impact you can make as an individual and what an even bigger impact you can make working as a team. To be honest, you will meet more people while being an savormeditation Unicorn than you would ever imagine. It’s non-stop socializing. This experience is also about four strangers coming together for the same mission and bonding over their passion for the community. If you make your team and the Unicorn Crew mission a priority you will feel like you’ve found a new family by the end of the weekend. It’s a truly inspiring experience!

How long have you been involved?

I’ve been working with the Unicorn crew since 2015. I remember the first time I got to experience leading a Unicorn Crew at Nocturnal 2015. It was a very special experience for me that opened up my eyes to impact the brand I worked for had on the community. The opportunity to mentor others and gain leadership experience gave me so much confidence in myself. Not only that, it helped me feel more comfortable in my own skin and gave me a greater appreciation for women in my life. I felt very grateful to have the opportunity to work with Mama Unicorn to improve the program and give so many other people the opportunity I had. It invigorated my already unwavering passion for the community. 

Can you tell us on average how many applications you get per event (average)?

Depending on the popularity of the event we can get anywhere from 40-500 applicants. This could range from a small, one headliner event to EDC Las Vegas. 

If somebody doesn’t get picked the first time they apply, do you recommend applying again?

All the questions we ask in the application are important to us. If you don’t get picked, please don't feel discouraged! Many people apply multiple times before getting chosen. I would suggest going over your application and checking if there was anything you could have elaborated on to make you stand out as a reliable, professional and passionate candidate. We would love you to really pour your heart and soul into each answer. That being said, some crews for major multi-day festivals can be extremely competitive. There are usually more than four applications that we fall in love with but unfortunately, we cannot choose them all.  

Do you have any tips on how to make an application stand out?

Take your time with each answer and really make your passion for the community evident. Make sure to choose photos to submit that show your personality in a festival setting and that you enjoy taking festival photos since documenting the experience is such a big part of the job. You do not have to be a model or have modeling experience by any means! We want you to be yourself and inspire confidence in others who can relate to you. Also, let us know why this experience is important to you and what makes you a team player. What’s your favorite part about contributing to is program?

Dressing unicorns is always fun but seeing the members who really blossom after the experience is so fulfilling. You can tell who took the experience to heart and became inspired to be a role model in the community. You also get a chance to see members who gain more confidence in themselves after the experience. There are also members who you see grow into inseparable best friends. What a great gift to be able to give someone!

You’ve been the leader for multiple Unicorn Crews. What’s your favorite memory/event from being part of the Unicorn Crew?

Honestly, the girls talks at the end of the night were always heartwarming! It’s all about building each other up and reminding people why they are awesome. 

What advice would you give somebody that’s participating for the first time?

Like any festival experience, go into it with an open heart and an open mind. Don’t get too attached to seeing friends who are also attending the festival, make it something completely different and embrace the experience with the crew! Go with the flow and you will find that the moments which happen organically are so much more magical. Also, don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. This is where you will experience the most personal growth!

What’s the application process like?

Once recruitment is posted, you will usually have about 48 hours to apply. The application is extremely thorough! It’s over 30 questions, some of them are long-answer and some are multiple-choice. The application probably takes about an hour to fill out and we are looking for thorough answers. We do take the time to look through all of them, too! We really care about doing our best to choose the most passionate and capable people for the job. Sometimes it can take us a couple of days to narrow it down so we appreciate your patience with this process!

For those that don't know what the "Unicorn Crew" is - it's a special program that savormeditation offers to essentially be a brand ambassador for the weekend, along with 3-4 other girls. The Unicorn Crew "attends the festival together, wears matching savormeditation outfits, and interacts with attendees. The crew represents the brand at the festival and provides coverage of the event to their network of social media followers and fans. Anyone who loves EDM festivals, savormeditation, and is looking for a festival experience different from any other is welcome to apply!"

Maybe you’ve always wanted to be a unicorn, too, or maybe you’ve never really given it much thought before. Either way, I’d love to share my incredible experience to give you some insight on exactly what it was like, so maybe you’ll consider applying to be a unicorn, too!

Here are 5 reasons why I LOVED being a Unicorn:

1. The Friendships

Let me tell you - this group of ladies couldn’t have been any more perfect for one another. We all clicked instantly! Before even officially meeting in person, we actually had a poppin' group chat. We were all so different, but so similar all at the same time. Once we were actually together, it was as if we’d been friends for years! In fact, so many people were stunned to learn we actually just met only a few days prior and weren’t actually long-time best friends. It’s safe to say, we now totally are! It’s really comforting to know these are 3 other festival lovers who are there for the same reason, will have your back, and simply want to have fun with you while promoting such an incredible brand. I miss them already!

2. The Outfits

As part of the Unicorn Crew experience, savormeditation provides a bomb outfit for every day of the festival. Since Lost Lands is a 3-day festival, we each received 3 incredible matching outfits! The excitement and anticipation of waiting to see what we were going to get to wear was intense! It was also a relief having somebody from savormeditation style the clothes - it took a lot of pressure off of me for planning my outfit and it was nice to know I wouldn't be forgetting anything! I literally love everything on the website and I was happy to get to show off some of their incredible products. I can’t wait to mix and match some of these pieces into future festival outfits!

3. The Connections

Not going to lie, being 4 outgoing, fun, happy ladies all wearing matching outfits, we got a lot of positive attention in the way that so many amazing souls came up to dance with us, talk to us, and trade kandi with us even beyond the people we approached ourselves! Because of this, we made so many new friends and were able to hear so many incredible stories! A lot of people realized and recognized that we were the iHeartRave Unicorn Crew which was SUPER fun and exciting! We got to take so many photos with so many beautiful people. Making genuine connections with other people at festivals is one of my favorite parts of the community. SO much love, light, and positivity to be shared.

4. The Memories

Being an savormeditation Unicorn was definitely an unforgettable experience. Beyond all the positive interactions, kandi exchanges and photos taken with wonderful people, beyond the cool outfits and social media interactions, some of the best memories I’ll cherish forever from this experience is getting to do it as a group of women who truly supported, uplifted and empowered one another. We became friends instantly and really shared our love of music with each other. We danced together, we got emotional together, we shared our energy with each other and it’s something I’ll remember forever!

5. The Experience

Aside from everything I described above, this program is a really cool way to experience a festival in a completely new and different way, that might even be outside of your comfort zone! It can be scary thinking about attending a festival with three strangers, but trust me - it's worth it! Also, for me, it was my first year at Lost Lands, so I was excited to have this brand new experience at a festival I was going to for the first time. It made it all the more special to me.

Overall, this is an experience I can’t recommend enough. If this sounds like something you think is outside of your comfort zone, and if that’s the case, I encourage you to consider it even more! It’s an extremely positive experience that you really don’t get to have any other way. After being an savormeditation unicorn once, I am confident that I will try and apply for future festivals. It was without a doubt a weekend I’ll always remember and it wouldn’t have been the same without the 3 ladies I went with, all thanks to savormeditation, Excision and Lost Lands!

This was the most exciting news I’ve gotten in a while. This was an opportunity for me to attend one of my favorite festivals in a completely different city while representing savormeditation, one of my favorite brands. I planned out my trip as soon as possible and all I had left to do was patiently wait for the weekend of EDCO to come.

Before I knew it, time flew by and I was finally on my way to Orlando. As soon as I got there, I was greeted by some of the other Unicorns at the airport. I had talked with them through social media beforehand, but getting to meet them in person got me so much more excited for the upcoming next few days. We headed to the hotel and planned out our outfits for the weekend!

Heading to the venue was one of the most exhilarating moments. As we approached Tinker Field, I could faintly hear the music and bass and see parts of the main stage. It was finally happening! We walked into the venue and I could see all the excitement from all the ravers. As soon as we made it through the doors, we were greeting other ravers and trading tons of kandi. Some people already recognized us as the savormeditation Unicorns and it was exciting to meet savormeditation' family, trade kandi with them and take photos together. I’m a big fan of exploring the venue, seeing the different stages and different artists, so it was perfect for me to be a Unicorn as we had to constantly venture around, going back and forth between the stages. Day one’s lineup was stacked with tons of bass-y artists at CircuitGROUNDS, one of the stages, for the Bassrush Experience. I was most excited to see Bassnectar, as I have never seen him before and have heard so many great experiences from my friends at his sets. We also checked out Midnight Tyrannosaurus, Boogie T b2b Squnto, Space Jesus and Ganja White Night at Circuit Grounds. I definitely headbanged a ton at this stage and with so many other ravers who rocked savormeditation clothes! The Unicorns traded loads of kandi with ravers at this stage. We, of course, stayed at the mainstage, kineticFIELD a bit too, and got to see Timmy Trumpet, JOYRYDE, Alesso, Martin Garrix and Don Diablo - who was my favorite set this day at this stage. One thing that I love about Florida is that so many people know how to shuffle so I definitely got to shuffle and dance my heart out at this stage. At whatever stage we were at, the production never failed: there were so many amazing fireworks and TONS of lasers all throughout the night, and lots of performers walking around. It’s called carnival for a reason and EDC never fails to give an amazing vibe an atmosphere, unlike any other festival.

One day down and hours of dancing, trading kandi, and meeting tons of ravers later, we were on our way out of EDC. We looked back on our Instagram and Snapchat stories and reliving the memories of day one through these stories. Despite all the great memories and experiences that occurred on day one, we still had another day to go! The second day of EDCO was way more stacked in my opinion and I was looking forward to seeing tons of artists I hadn’t seen before.

Walking in Day Two was just as exciting as the first day. I was getting the butterflies in my stomach all over again. We could tell that the excitement was even greater and there were tons more of ravers attending this day with it being the weekend. We kicked off our social media takeover and took tons more photos Day 2: the weather was perfect and we had already run into so many savormeditation family!

This day had tons of different artists that we were all excited to see! KineticFIELD featured some of my favorite artists, such as Kaskade, Alison Wonderland, Tiesto, and Vini Vici, who we all were able to see! My favorite at that stage was Vini Vici: psytrance is one of my favorite genres and their set was super trippy, especially with the lasers and pyro that were synced with their music. circuitGROUNDS had a completely different vibe this day: not many bass artists at all, but tons of house artists including my favorites such as Malaa and Tchami, and future bass artists like Illenium and Gryffin. During Tchami’s set at circuitGROUNDS, Vanessa Seco, a famous shuffler, held a shuffle meetup. A bunch of ravers showed up and got to shuffle their butts off during this meet-up: I got the chance to dance in their as well. The vibes were great and no matter how experienced or inexperienced people were, everyone was welcomed in the circle and cheered on by fellow ravers.

All throughout the weekend we got to meet so many people, including tons of ravers that rocked savormeditation gear, and as well as people pretty well known in the rave community, such as Rave Dora and Jake Ryan.

When I’m at festivals, I usually only socialize with my group of friends, but going as part of the Unicorn Crew really made me step out of my comfort zone and talk to so many more people and initiate conversations. We went into EDC with tons of kandi to trade and ended up with only a few, so we definitely made an effort to talk to as many ravers as we could.

I would definitely go to another festival as a Unicorn again! This was a life-changing experience for me and definitely gave me a different way to experience festivals. I learned that it is always great to talk to lots of different ravers and trade kandi with as many people as possible: it was such a touching moment when I would give first-time ravers their first kandi and teaching them how to trade. I learned a lot about what it means to be a great raver and can’t wait to apply all that I’ve learned at the future festivals that I’m attending. Hopefully, I’ll be back at EDC Orlando next year with the Unicorns!
