Halloween is one of the best times of the year to rave. There is nothing better for your inner child than getting to put on a costume and dance around with your friends. Since trick or treating isn't really something we can do as adults, getting to trade Kandi at the rave is a close second.

Get Freaky Festival at the Utah State Fairpark was the spot to be this Halloweekend. With one of the best Halloween lineups of 2024 and a vibrant atmosphere, Get Freaky was a Halloweekend for the books.

The Music

In the last few years i have leaned firmly into my genre-phobic tendencies, so I won't even try to describe what I danced to at Get Freaky. The vibes were heavy, with lots of bass and a mix of down and uptempo sets throughout the weekend. Imanu opened the festival under the haunted big top on Friday, delivering a set that was a masterclass in experimental beats.

Saturday saw the crowd drawn to Dimension at the Tomb of Doom stage, a performance that many hailed as the weekend's highlight. Legendary acts like Andy C and Caspa B2B Rusko brought back nostalgic vibes, while Liquid Stranger's bass-heavy set under the big top was a definitive standout.

Sunday wrapped up with powerhouse performances from Hol!, Crankdat, and the unmissable RL Grime, making for a perfect Halloween send-off. If you get the chance to see RL Grime play during a Halloween festival, you can't miss it. It's raver law, i'm afraid.

Throughout the weekend the bass was intense, to say the least. If you don't believe me, just hear what this Karen has to say! Or u/sea-marsupial-9414 who went the extra mile and monitored the decibel levels of Get Freaky throughout the weekend. This kind of volume is the kind of thing that ravers love, so as far as I know, these complaints should be ads for Get Freaky 2025.

The Vibe

The festival grounds, while intimate, were perfectly laid out, allowing for easy navigation between stages with no overlapping sounds. This design created an easy flow where you could always explore and find something new. The vibe was so good that I even traded Kandi.

The Ranger sound car was a cool addition that I don't see at many festivals, with a disco ball that made the whole dance floor feel like you were swimming under light. Having a sound car as a stage at a music festival is a unique touch that I don't see often, and I liked that it collaborated with a local artist group. It was a reminder that V2 (the company that puts on Get Freaky) is a local company that actually puts locals first.

The Experience

What truly made Get Freaky special were the interactive art installations scattered throughout the venue, like the live painting walls, the live screen printing vendor, and even the clown contest on Friday. These interactive elements encouraged exploration and engagement, adding a layer of creativity beyond the music.

The Haunted Big Top 360 stage was another unique and amazing experience that seemed to be the standout of the weekend, even among the artists who performed at the festival. It gave the stage a very intimate, high-tech vibe that was, hopefully, a sign of what is to come at future events.

Overall, Get Freaky was an unforgettable experience filled with great music, great vibes, and some truly freaky costumes. Check out the next festival on November 30th at the Great Saltair with Transmit 2024!
